About Tarrah

Tarrah Vaughn is the founder of Ember & Anchor, a brand created for the families who carry the calling too.

Her story is not about wearing the uniform. It is about building a marriage, raising a family, and creating a life alongside the fire service. Over the years, she has experienced the long shifts, missed holidays, interrupted plans, promotions, stress, pride, sacrifice, and constant adjustment that come with loving someone whose career reaches far beyond the station.

Ember & Anchor grew out of that lived experience and Tarrah’s desire to give a voice to the family side of the fire service.

Why Ember and Anchor

Her Life Alongside the Fire Service

Life alongside the fire service is rarely predictable. Tarrah has spent years learning what it means to build a family around a schedule that does not always belong to you.

There have been birthdays, holidays, school events, family plans, and ordinary days shaped by shifts, overtime, emergencies, and the demands of the job. There have also been moments of pride, growth, laughter, and a deep appreciation for what service means to the people who live beside it.

Over time, Tarrah came to understand that fire-service families develop their own kind of strength. They learn to adjust, support one another, carry extra weight when needed, and keep home grounded even when the job is pulling hard in the other direction.

That perspective became the foundation for Ember & Anchor.

Why She Created Ember & Anchor

Ember & Anchor was created because the family side of the fire service deserves its own voice.

Much of the conversation around the fire service focuses on the job itself: the calls, the training, the leadership, the sacrifice, and the people wearing the uniform. But behind every shift is a family adjusting, supporting, waiting, planning, and carrying part of that calling too.

Tarrah wanted to create a place where those experiences could be shared honestly and where fire-service families could feel seen, understood, and connected.

Ember & Anchor is about marriage, family, resilience, and the life that exists beyond the station doors.

What She Hopes Ember & Anchor Becomes

Tarrah’s vision for Ember & Anchor is simple: to create something useful, honest, and lasting for fire-service families.

She hopes it becomes a place where spouses and families can find stories they relate to, encouragement during difficult seasons, and reminders that the challenges of fire-service life are shared by many others.

Over time, Ember & Anchor may grow into books, resources, conversations, and products built around marriage, family, and life connected to the fire service.

But at its core, the purpose will stay the same: to support the families who carry the calling too.

Married to the Calling

Married to the Calling is the first major project from Ember & Anchor and the beginning of Tarrah’s effort to tell the family side of the fire service more openly.

The book explores marriage, parenting, sacrifice, growth, frustration, pride, and the reality of building a life around a career that never stays neatly at the station.

Tarrah leads the story from the family perspective, with Ryan Vaughn serving as co-author and adding the firefighter’s side of the same life.

Together, the book tells one story from two sides of the calling.
